CAON DESIGN OFFICE . Modulo

Modulo is a conceptual aircraft seating system developed by Caon Design Office in collaboration with The Woolmark Company. It explores new possibilities in aircraft interior design through material innovation, structural efficiency, and passenger wellbeing.

We were commissioned to produce a short animation that communicates the essence of the Modulo concept — its material sophistication, structural logic, and dynamic transformation.

Through physics simulation and 3D visualisation, we explored light, movement, and tactility to express how the seat transitions between openness and privacy while maintaining an atmosphere of calm precision.

Particular attention was given to the semi-transparent membrane and its interaction with underlying geometry, ensuring accurate representation of scale and light diffusion.

The 3D-knitted membrane integrates carbon and elastic polymers, granting it controlled flexibility and allowing the seat to transition smoothly from an open state to a private enclosure.

Modulo was designed to optimise both performance and lifecycle: reducing weight, simplifying maintenance, and elevating the tactile and visual quality of the cabin environment.
